lively!!

yay so happy!

anyway char i haven't read ANY of /h/a/ru/ki /mu/ra/k/ami's books so i can't tell!! and yours sounds more useful than what i did, for web stuffs at least. anyway since u did javascript and html you can fiddle around with our blogskin too! javascript is like java for websites .. java is like what you use for stand-alone software (but u know this already), my comsci module was on java but as of now i know too little to be programming anything at all... and in any case id rather know website stuffs than programming stuffs

and kat! omg! yilin will be in japan too! i want to go to japan!!! aHhhHhHhh.... aiyah. anyway come join our speech course! people who are going to be in singapore. lj kat and i intend to learn how to speak properly ha ha ha ha

u now that the chinese news at channel 8 has chinese SUBtitLEs? watching it now.. was rather surprise to notice it. hMMMMM ^_^

hallooooo wie geht's

HELLO soorry i've been MIA. i got back to sg last saturday. had a full-on month in melb before that so basically took the past week off to recuperate at home...

i'm holidaying in japan from 18-24dec! so i'll see you guys after!

i've been honing my driving skills.. my family doesnt seem to trust my probational victorian driving license (Aust) and admittedly half the time i have no idea what all the lines on these singaporean roads mean so i'd better take a local basic theory test

and the rain was nice for a while but now it's just annoying when i want to go out... hehe, funny thinking of yi lin chasing after a slipper.. hope u got it back!

i'm only back til 18 jan so it's a short timeframe to do stuff. after christmas i have 3+ weeks so.. let's do smth fast!

i want strawberries...

one more paper! my paper's the last exam slot for exam week. :( so outside, people are singing and partying... and sounding very happy................ rrrr.

heehee... choon what did you learn in your cs class? i took a cs class too this quarter. but it was the easiest one. :p introduction to computers. learnt html, a bit of javascript.... which was so new to me! i'm thinking of taking the next one which focuses completely on javascript but it's supposed to be really difficult and time consuming so i might take it during another term when im doing fewer units!

i thought it was feline! not faline... hmm i dont remember. my spelling must be off. :X

8 of us. :) i agree. there's alot of nolstagia associated with that. it's like a happy time in ny when life was much simpler, fewer variables, distinct memories, just alot more innocence. and there you guys were! just there.

haru/ki m/uraka/mi! i remember... clarisse always talked about sputnik sweetheart... norweigian (sp?) wood... i remember reading sputnik sweetheart once at borders but i don't remember liking it much. it was too wistful, too dreamy. i suppose japanese authors have that quality about them? (correct me if i am wrong....) which probably has to do with the semantics of the language? maybe i should go and read it again. :) it's funny because my friend just commented on murakami on her blog... she said...

oh yes, last night i read mu/ra/kami's after dark which was an entertaining read, except that i would have enjoyed it much more had the women not been, as usual, emotionally stunted and suffering.

do you guys agree??

more after tmr!

ba gua of love

how about the chinese octagonal ba gua with the mirror inside instead ha ha ha ha
cos of the pun with ba gua hee hee.
slept so late this morning! fight on...

the octagon of love

this makes me so happy that all 8 of us are here now! it reminds me so much of 5L days, when it was always the 8 of us and we used to do and write millions of things that were about 8 ness i think... like the phrase "the 8 of us" just sounds so strangely, yet fondly familiar. you know what i mean? a song from years ago suddenly playing in a store... and you find yourself singing along and knowing all of the lyrics without being previously aware that you held that information within.

okay, someone sounds nostalgic. it's because i'm writing my essay about nostalgia, hur hur.
there's this definition of nostalgia by John Treats that it's the paradoxical longing for what has never existed, the desire for desire. what do you think of that?

righto.. back to work.
loooove !

thanks and hello char!

this is really strange because I was positive I added you already, and anyway i think i did because when i invited you again this time your email address was cached so it appeared again.

anyway, i can't believe u know what TESOL is! with mingen ignoring us -_-....

can't wait till mak sees her solo model shot HAHAHA

and congrats on the french oral lj! im very fascinated with ha/ruki muraka/mi too... in fact did i tell you about what i wiki-ed about him already? i thought i did, but i can't rmb when/where. also, i think we're kinda 3 or 4 years late. ap/arn/a was reading his books like in sec 3 or 4?!?!?! i mean the litty circle (which charmaine belongs to) was like very aWARE....

in any case regarding the jap translation, let's just say that it took me 7 years of french to start reading proper french books.... and i've only done.. uhh... almost 2 years of jap!?!??! but yAH actually i was so motivated to read his books that i was crazy mugging jap past two days, reading online blogs and gossip columns. progress is interminable.

also, i realised that ha/ru/ki /mu/r/a/k/ami is from /w/as/e/d/a university! which only rang a bell because they were advertising this new d/ouble/d/e/gre/e prog at NUS like in October this year. which i didn't even give two hoots about, because i was so sianned about the turkish experience that i thought i'd just carry on coasting passively in nu/s forever. but then suddenly i started looking at the prog, and even though it's quite messy, like, i emailed them and the people in charge were rather clueless also about the structure (which reminded me of what me/lm/ak said about her sister's friend from /n/u/s who had a horror exchange trip where suddenly the school said they didn't want to recognise her MCs) so yah. that's just that for now.

the plus point about it is that if successful, i spend 2 years in /wa/s/e/da (which is in to/k/yo/!) and 3 years in /n/us/. the minus point is that that's 5 years of school. which may be a plus point depending on my mood of the day. another minus point is that i'll have to sacrifice com sci... which im not so sure about yet. let's wait for the release of results this dec then! if it turns out ive flunked comsci (not so improbable) then maybe it would be prudent to just explore for fun at home ha ha ha

so my long long winding story.

regarding the new layout... i actually think its quite messy! the pink part should be a bit bigger... cos the words start too close to the border. im going to work on it tmr. also, i've looked at tonnes of other blogs, kids are amazing.

did i tell you that when i was p3 or p5 i forgot.. when i was in my "Faline" phase. did any of you know me by the name "Faline"? if not, then it must have been before p4. the name was from bambi, and i actually was inspired by the whole "keypal" movement and i created a website.. and i added a freaking interactive CHAT box (applets i think, it was dull and black, but it worked) on my page. and i managed to chat with somebody from the US i think, who was at my page at the same time. and looking at other bloggies ... actually /cl/au/i/ac/ha'/ng from my class in jc was actually rather good at the whole website design business too. she even had her own company and was earning money i think. people are amazing really

okok enough crap. im going out for brunch now.. and then mugg!! ^_^

I LOVE THE CHANGES :) :)

you rock! i want to change my xanga layout but it's been months since i said that... pooo.

anyhow, i just wanted to say, that yes!! dont u think haruki murakami's mode of life is so interesting??? apparently he just decided he didn't have enough experience to write though he wanted to... and also, apparently he replies his reader's emails himself!!! aah. when all the exam madness is over, im so going to be emailing him. i also ordered like 3 of his other books online :P

and if you are so skeptical of translations, why dont you get the japanese version?? i wanted to get it for you on amazon but i couldn't find it (namely cos i dont know japanese, i feel)

oh! and aujourd'hui j'ai eu mon examen français, l'entretien! ça marche, je pense. mais je veux apprendre plus français, plus plus plUS!

and. i have to start and finish an essay real soon.. and just took a 4 hour nap! good gracious.

my appetite for sleep is epic..

salut mes amies. a bientot.

byebye time

heehee... the pictures are so cute. :)

and omgggggg i woke up at 930am intending to do work and it's now 1030am!!!!!!!!

ooh barracuda

hiiiii guys,

yay i've been added to the blog! :) TESOL is teaching english to speakers of other languages, or teach english as a second language.... or some variation of that.

in the middle of exams now..... had 2 on monday, have 1 tmr (econ) and then 1 on friday (econ stats) :) but i just wanted to say hiiiiiiiiiiii teehee

i'll be going to peru on friday night and be back in the states on 29th december - so bernice, if you want to give me a ring, do! and im sorry that i won't be in singapore. :( i really want to be! but i'll only be going back in summer working for the gahmen...

choon what documentary is this??? what is it for??

Help with Film

actually , i think i CAN incorporate all of you in the documentary im working on now. it's for the starting. i think i might even need mak's dog.

PLEASE AGREE TO APPEAR IN FRONt Of CAMERA !! i've made the loan from 22ndDec - 29th Dec......... i hope some of you will be in Singapore by then.

what is TESOL mi/ngen?!

as you can see, i check this blog about 10 times a day.

anyway what is TESOL?

anyway this holiday is actually ur summer holiday so you have quite a bit of time in singapore right? do you want to do a film? hahhaha a short one. however, it means that we'll have to write a script soon. and to do that, we need to know how many actors we can get our hands on.

but im always rushing things. if anything, we should plan for your NEXT summer holiday, if you're coming to singapore at ALL! ha ha ha

i feel like MAKING something, but for filming i always feel so short-handed. and they are raising taxi-prices so it's hard to move all the equipment from one place to another. i've attempted to go from little india (where i rented) to clementi and all i can say is im not half the wo-man i used to be. plus, warnings of osteoporosis in my 40s and 50s is making me wary. plus, they're raising taxi prices starting next monday. like wth?

oh bernice if you're ever coming back can i film you dancing? hahaha
ill need to think of why i would want a scene of you dancing though. let me think.

anw mingen since we BOTH don't know what to do, and im sure you're as reluctant to get bound to a desk job as i am, let's both brainstorm. im not so sure however of your other inclinations. like do you have that YEARN to CREATE?! i think im missing a partner, or like a group. im not enough myself. i need a band.

i don't really know what im doing at uni either. i sort of like what im studying, but im pissed at the emphasis on grades and exams. so im actually thinking now, am i buying time at uni, or am i just wasting it. but actually i think i'd like to learn a bit more before launching into filming or smth... but even filming's a bit scary because u're so dependent on (good) actors. there's so much dEPENDENCE. whereas if you were simply good at writing or painting, you don't need anybody else

yes i think about these sort of problems whole day long

what's TESOL?

Yello everyone!!

yeap I've been working at sentosa is this rain rain rain quite fun though keep getting wet and having puddles form in my shoes.. augh... next thing I know I will get hong kong feet. and I'm going to hong kong in 2 days! yay! quite sad lar cus I wanna go back to japan (where my bro n girlfriend n co have gone to) but I'm broke lar haha so pathetic. so I'm going to hk and meeting bro n co halfway through. hehes...

hmm so much to say but I'm a bit lazy n tired. yeah yilin came to visit me hahas it was kindafun I was stoning for the first hour or so until 2nd half my stoning friend and me decided to take action. btw I'm referring to the Starbucks salvation army open house free drinks day thingey.. hahas... went back to help out.

hm choon u aren't the only one who doesn't know what she wants to do in future.. hehes. I suck. but yeah like bernice said I am pretty keen on TESOL esp in japan but in the first place I don't even need to study anymore to do that hahas so Imight as well quit now!! I really really wanna go back to japan sooooo much... ahh.

so is everyone done with tests/exams?? I got my results last week.. hahas ahhh dropped quite a bit from last sem hehes whoops but I got results with grades in the reverse order of how hard I'd studied for each subject hehes.

30th! I think my sec4 class is arranging to meet up on 29th so I can't make it on that day! I'll be free every other day (provided I'm not happily overworking). anyway in order of to-do importance:
1) PRATA
2)PRATA
3)PRATA
4) ECP cycling
5) whadeva

hee hee hee... can't wait to meet up!
どらえもん!
heh actually didn't mean to type it but my japanese keyboard was on!
and yah actually doraemon is a great way to revise jap!!! ^_^
anyway another thing about that video is that it awakened this fascination in me about dance! not in the im-going-to-start-dancing-for-real kind of thing but the whole idea of it as expression

actually bernice have you heard of deaf poetry? i think it borders on 'dance' in the sense of expression-through-movement... i watched this short clip showing some deaf poets, and their poems are conceived of in sign language but it's not so straightforward ... anw

it's been raining almost everyday here now

it's hard to teach english actually... all those noun phrases or clauses or whatever... and it's hard to be a banker. not to mention rather intimidating and spiritually unrewarding. and it's hard to be a web administrator.

if i could cry easily i would be an actress! but the acting world is scary. actually i tihnk if i can't make up my mind ill be an air stewardess! but i think it might be too tiring. oh shut up.

anyway bernice are ur exams over? what are your exams like man?

kat is supposedly in singapore! but she hasn't updated her blog (or this one) so im not so sure about her whereabouts

yilin's in cheena, mingen's working in sentosa (although i wonder how, in this dratted weather)

lj's studying haruki murakami's hardboiled egg something.. the title of which sounds so interesting i want to read it but am only holding back because i have lingering suspicions about translated works

charmaine's nowhere to be found, she didn't reply my email so i guess she's busy. and she hasn't blogged right!

mak's in taiwan.

according to the wi/ki, haruki murakami opened his own jazz bar after uni and wrote his first book at 29 after watching a baseball match. sounds so boho.
=)

actually i'd like the little cafes featured in:

拝啓、父上様

which also features the cute little boy who acted in Stand Up! (which we tried to watch unsuccessfully at mak's house -- i have the VCDs now!)

actually it'd be quite fun making LOL-ROFL-type dramas like Stand Up!, which manages the Channel 8 proselytizing/moralizing role a bit more coolly and stylishly haha
i wonder, is it really because singapore's too small?!?! i mean just look at the cast for Stand Up!, which is one of the japanese equivalent of average 7 or 9-oclock shows in singapore. the main actor goes on to star in some hollywood show, a supporting member does shakespeare on stage, another is handpicked to star in some TV ad with the b/eck/hams, and the other one, i m not so sure, but i spotted his poster in my sister's bedroom. so like, all these teen actors have been in the biz since they were 10 or smth. and if you've watched it about 3/4 times over, (like i have) u realise that actually they pretty darn good actors, even if it's a silly (but funny!) show. and the script, and everything.

strange thing to muse over. oh well.

i know what i'll work as! i'll go be one of those people who buy pack lunches on movie/tv drama sets. ha ha ha. maybe after i do some shitty manual labour like that, and see enough of what goes on behind that fantastical tinseltowny reality ill stop being dreamy and fangirly and crAzy blahblahbalh

study!!!!! to chase away those guilt-sprites

Monday, December 10, 2007

omg you guys must watch this.. and the whole series!!
i also wanna learn japanese!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHmhE4JP94I&NR=1
it's like the back button on the internet.. hmm maybe in future we really will conduct everything online.. i doubt that though! there's still value in sitting in a lecture hall and listening.. there's evidence but i dunno where to cite the research.oops.
anyway yea the ken robinson talk is really not groundbreaking at all.. the talk really is good for mainly two things, i think: making noise to gain political backing, and congregating to make more noise and hopefully influence thought. an event, after all, has a greater impact than a whole slew of books sitting on a shelf. ok make that three things- it's great entertainment.. i really wonder what activists really do, though, to
anyways, if im not wrong the gep was actually suggested by a psychologist, and even if not, psychologists helped develop the program and its tests. and they were obviously not testing for academic talent, they were testing for intellectual talent, so they were looking for young kids who had brains that would gladly poke and prod at ideas. maybe a better name for gep would have been igep; the intellectually gifted education programme ahaha.. to highlighted how imbalanced such minds were, heh. although, i do think that we had a lot of fun in school.. all the enrichment stuff were very activities-based too. i think they should have some of the gep activities for all students, really. except maybe the impossibly difficult math tests.. im not sure failing consistently at the age of 10 does much for one's psyche. hahaha. hum.
somebody hire me at moe curriculum planning dept already!
anyways choon maybe you're multitalented, and that is why you cant figure out what to do.. and maybe it doesnt matter.. if all else fails, teach english as a second language, or be a banker ;p or web administrator

nice song

there are english rock songs that i like too, like ozzy osbourne's crazy train for the first minute especially. haha but j-rock is, while not totally seperate, a distinct enough genre! but as ye/ek/i/at once said, genres are the most artificial categories. hahaha.

this one was recommended to me by gracelim. =) we got another fan in the house

hey bernice watched the video.
the ideas were not new but the evidence/examples were interesting, and it was very gratifying to know that people out there were actually doing something about the damned thing
that's the thing actually there are very few NEW ideas, i mean a few of us were discussing about GE/P the last time as in what on earth did the GE/P test stream out? if you don't have a clear conception about intelligence how can you test for it it's not just academic talent tt it streamed out but whatever lah
talk had a slight slant towards dance though haha
but no bad

anyway YES what on earth am i going to work as next time this question plagues me incessantly

it's very uplifting to know people believe in alternatives but seriously, if u never "discover" that "talent" =( .

i just watched lust caution on sat btw, myself! it's great, educational too . ^_^

Saturday, December 8, 2007

oh man im sorry i forgot all about blogging! anyway go and watch this video he's really entertaining and it's thought-provoking stuff too
http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/66
that korean video reminded me of spice girls in p6.. HAHAHA do you all watch dancing with the stars??
hm im not going home this winter break =( i feel like an idiot for not going home but i'm going to sf! and my brother is coming! and i'll be heading to europe in march so if youre gonna be around in barcelona/bordeaux tell meee
anyway i realised that western food makes me sick because it's not home food not because it's fried/evil.. haha not like all the food we eat at home is very healthy what ;p
youuu! just like them cos theyre japanese!!! if this were an english band i bet you'd just shake your head in disgust and be like.. so noisy. i really liked the beginning though, it was so funny!

oh, and new band that i loveee: camera obscura! some of their best songs: tears for affairs, before you cry, books for girls.

the exam was alright, think that class should be an A! with a little luck :) how were your exams?!?! and i actually don't mind studying together, if that means we can spend more time together :) :) well not really study, but i'll read! french/english/chinese... i really want to gao2 hao3 chinese. i think the chinese course i took (the chinese teacher was SO SWEET. she's like zhou lao shi sweetness with the efficiency + skill of zheng/cai lao shi... ) but for once we're on really good terms. me and chinese teachers usually don't go. but she's just so encouraging and enthusiastic, and the wen zhangs she chose for class are so enjoyable, that its actually one of my favorite courses.

but 29th/30th works for me also! and im so excited about ecp ing! also, i think my house just finished being renovated, so everyone has to come over for house warming!! :) ill get drinks, we can have a little alcoholic party! hee hee. okay i just woke up and it's like 3pm... time to get cracking on work and shit.

see you all soooon :)

HOW HOW?

how did your test go? and that happens to me ALOT of the time.. in fact during A levels also!! i won't be able to sleep cos im too excited!!! anyway yilin just flew off last night.. and so we won't be able to contact her until the 26th.

HOWEVER.... WE Are GOING TO MEET ON EITHER the 29th Dec (Sat) for dinner, OR, 30th Dec for evening cycling at EAST coast AND DINNER! Because Yilin has a test on the 8th of JAN 2008, a whole group thing is ONLY POSSIBLE ON ONE OF THESE TWO DAYS. and she HAS TO STUDY!!!!

UNLESS of course... we are all agreeable to a mass studynig session TOGETHER at N/U/S LIBRARY!! I actually don't mind because i have a whole math and another whole java textbook to study, and im sure mak has her law stuff, and im sure kat wouldn't mind studiyng with yilin meddy thingies... so it's just lijun, mingen, blee and char! Would you like to study together? now that we're all in different schools, it's quite impossible. it'd be quite nice to do so! ^_^ anyway mingen we can study jap together!!! ^_^

here's a song for all cool people. Give it a chance. Click.

L'Arc En Ciel, Honey! ^_^

PS:

yilin, i like your blog name :) it's very nice and YOU. solid and reliable like a rock! hee hee.
also, i liked the image of you chasing your slipper. hee hee hee. i hope you have great fun on your holidayS... you travelmonger :)

booo

ahhh! i want a hot jap floorball guy TOOO. :P

anyways, guess what! this is so super duper exasperating la. i have an exam at 1045 am, its 445 am, and I CANT GET TO SLEEP. worse thing is, i finished studying at 3ish, and my brain is really tired, so i dont want to study anymore anymore. BUT. im also really excited cos tmr is friday and this was the test im dreading the most, and it will be such a relief though i still have 4 other courses to do stuff for after. but still, you know.

and the thing is that when im excited i just go crazy so im getting adrenaline rushes. at almost 5 am. and so i cant sleep. and sleep is impt for the exam!!! but what to do. and my stomach hurts a little. grrr.

so friends... umm... i dunno, im feeling rambly. and also, excited about going home!!! and excitement upon excitement is BAD. ugh. let me post a really nice picture.. i want to paint this.

yep. its very wistful too.. which i like even more. no, really im just rambling and being an idiot. i see a headache coming up too. my hugest crush/like ever is leaving in 8 days.. and never coming back. sighhh*

ramble ramble. ooh, i shall write a poem! FOR HIM! hur hur hur hur hur.

okay, sorry, ill try and be more coherent next time.

love! with little flying pink hearts and kisses. :)

hey if you're ever so kind please help me buy 十/七/岁/的/天/空! its some taiwan movie ... tt's supposedly vv good! ^_^ but no obligations..

prata is yes! and murtabak... just discovered a place near bugis mrt tt has really nice murtabak. anw if anyone's bored and wants some quality-vegetation go to p/opseo/ul.com!!! without the "/"s.... it's all about the korean media. hahahaha

my exams end on 5th! and one more on the 7th... and then im done!!! so yay its good tt ure only coming back next week
That was not grouching; that was an expression of envy.

Anyway, what's so fun about urg cycling? I've had enough of it!

I'll be back tomorrow but I'm going to be in Taiwan until next next week so... =p

PS. We need prata!
